Abstract
The article deals with the main problems of the development of local government in the system of federative relations in Russia: distribution of powers between the different levels of government, municipal autonomy, strengthening the financial base of municipality. The author comes to the conclusion that it’s necessary to improve the interaction of the different levels of government for effective implementation of the social and economic potential of local government.
